Terraria not loading?

I just bought the game terraria off steam and everytime i try to play it it says updating...preparing....signing in....then doesnt do anything. It does that everytime i try to play. When i open the normal steam network it does the same thing but opens. I tried playing it by clicking the play button on that but it just does it again. What is it doing?
