Does physics needs to be rebuilt?

Despite the well elaborated mathematics physics is still lacking the comprehension of "what is really going on". The philosophical role seems to have been abandoned creating a net of misunderstood concepts. Unlike mathematics, whose concepts are purely abstract, physics does require a more deep and meaningful understanding, a work of utterly insightful expression of reality rather than just algebraic formulas. This is idealistic but perhaps not impossible.
