Biggest problem with today's generation: parental negligence?

I'm doing an essay on the biggest issue facing today's youth. I've picked parental negligence and am looking for insightful opinions on this topic. I can't find any hard statistics of any kind, mostly because I'm not talking about outright negligence. I'm not focusing on parents who don't feed their children or refuse to give them medical assistance. What I want to look at is the parents who are bad disciplinarians and who don't spend enough (or the right kind of) time with their children, enabling destructive behaviors. If anyone has any firm facts, interesting articles, or other helpful information on this subject I would be really grateful.
